Shockwave: An Innovative Treatment Option for ED

Shockwave: An Innovative Treatment Option for ED

One of the major causes of erectile dysfunction (ED) is restricted blood flow to the penis – the amount of blood in the cavernous bodies may not be enough to cause an erection. This type is vascular Erectile Dysfunction.

Summit Men’s Health offers Low intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy (Shockwave) to treat vascular ED.

It’s an attractive alternative to medications and surgery. This clinically proven in-office treatment is painless and has minimal risks or side effects. Many patients report noticeable improvement in their ability to achieve an erection within a few weeks.

How does it work?

Shockwave is a well-established, noninvasive treatment option for men with erectile dysfunction, supported by years of clinical data.

Using a handheld probe on the outside of the body, on areas of the penis and perineum, the  Shockwave therapy delivers low-intensity acoustic waves through the skin. These small pulses are painless and promote new blood vessel growth, improving blood supply to the nerves and penis. Treatments require no anesthesia and typically last about 15 minutes. Most men need about 6 sessions to experience improvement. Results are long lasting and can be repeated when needed again.

Unlike traditional treatments that provide temporary enhancement of blood flow, Shockwave therapy is restorative in nature and targets the underlying vascular pathology.

While Shockwave is an excellent option for many patients with ED, it may not be beneficial for certain men. If your ED is not due to vascular or blood flow issues, you’ll need to try something else. To learn more about treatment and pricing, ask your Summit Men’s Health provider.
